A few years ago I met a boy who asked me a very simple but life changing question: “Do you want to run away together?”. And so the wanderlust was ignited and 2016 became the year this crazy idea turned into reality. The bucket list of “must see” countries started with a handful but quickly grew to fill a 12 month itinerary.
Having both only lightly travelled previously, the anticipation and excitement of this adventure was high. We sold all our belongings including our cars, resigned from our respective jobs and took all that remained in a pair of 70L backpacks. Embarking on such a journey raised many questions and skepticisms from family and friends, but at the same time an overwhelming amount of support.
As an Event Manager, I’m highly organised and efficient, meaning I like to have my schedule planned out at least a few weeks in advance. But as you learn, some of the best joys of travel come from spontaneity and are brought on by the people you meet along the way so with the help of Kim’s easy going nature and bubbly personality we become a great travel team. We are also privilaged enough to have friends and family join us for various parts of our adventure, which is truly special and adds to the already amazing stockpile of memories.
I never did think I would be the kind of person who leaves everything behind to chase that desire to explore the world but it turns out I feel right at home. They say home is where the heart is and I do know this heart of mine was made to travel this World.
