The gorgeous Longji (or Longsheng) Rice Fields – is one of the most famous and awesome activities that you can do from Guilin. There are numerous organized tours that can take you there on a day trip, or you can even come here on your own by taking a public bus (which is actually a better option – since it will give you more time and freedom at the site).
A day tour normally includes a stopover at the beautiful Huangluo Yao Village famous for its ‘long-hair’ Yao minority. It then proceeds to the Longji rice terraces where one can have up to 2,5-3 hours to wander around. There’s a cable car at the base of the rice fields, which takes about 25 minutes to reach the peak. It’s also possible to walk to the top by taking one of the several hiking trails. Though, my advise would be to take the cable car to the top, and then walk all the way down.
One of the most amazing features of these rice fields – is that you can come here many times during different months and/or seasons, and experience an entirely new scenery. During late March numerous gorgeous and colorful flowers bloom and cover the entire fields. During early June, the fields are filled with water – making them look like long and narrow mirrors. From July to August the fields are green. In early October they are orange and golden. And finally, in the Winter they are white with snow.
So grab your camera, book your tickets, and come here as soon (and as often) as you can! (And if you can’t do that yet – please enjoy these photos, taken at the end of May 2017).

Beautiful fields of gold…

Gorgeous rice fields at the end of a harvesting season, and the beginning of a new one…

Beautiful, fluffy and… poisonous caterpillar – be careful not to step on, or to touch one!

There’s always enough work on the rice fields…
