- Lithuanian Garlic Bread Recipe - November 15, 2016
Recipe’s Ingredients:
- ½-1 loaf of bread (for a classic recipe – rye bread is preferable. But any other kind should work well too, as long as it does not crumble easily).
- 1-2 slices of garlic.
- salt.
Recipe’s Instructions:
- Cut the bread into strips, each about an inch wide.
- Heat some oil in a skillet. Put the pieces of bread in the pan with oil and fry it on both sides until crispy.
- When the bread is done, place it in a bowl or a plate and add garlic by either rubbing it onto the bread directly or mixing bread with the minced garlic.
- Add salt to taste.
Enjoy!

I hope you still maintain this blog. What kind of oil do you prefer? Do you ever add minced garlic to the oil or only after it is done frying? I have been to Riga, Latvia 4 times and never bothered to ask anyone this recipe. Also, I know it typically is served with a chili mayonnaise. Do you have a recipe for this?
Hi Thomas! You can use vegetable oil, or olive oil. I add the minced garlic to hot bread after it’s done frying. You can do it immediately after you take one batch out and while the other is cooking. I have not tasted it with chili mayonnaise… It sounds good, though! Enjoy:)
