Li-Jiang River cruise is one of the most famous activities in Guilin, and is one of the main reasons why visitors from all over the World come to this city. The cruise takes about 3-4 hours (one-way) – departing from Guilin and arriving to a small, picturesque town named Yangshuo.
Upon arrival, most tour operators offer 3 to 4 hours of free time, including an option to go on an additional local tour, before returning its guests back to Guilin by a bus (which takes about 1,5 hours). In addition, the visitors have an option to spend a night (or two) in Yangshuo, to have more time to explore its surroundings, but one must plan in advance.
This beautiful cruise starts from the famous ‘Cat Mountain’, that is located on around a 45-minute drive from Guilin, and which is also the highest peak in the South of China. It passes through some of the most gorgeous scenery of the region, which includes the striking Karst topography that is so easy to confuse with the postcard views from Thailand and Vietnam. While standing on the deck of a ship – one can enjoy this breathtaking panorama, which will not fail to impress and amaze even the most experienced viewers.
Along the way, Li-Jiang River cruise passes through some very interesting and prominent landmarks, such as: The Painted Hill of Nine Horses, Crown Cave, Yangdi, Langshi and XingPing scenery, and many others. One can also spot some local fishermen sailing down on their hand-made bamboo rafts, as well as some domesticated cattle grazing peacefully on the banks of the river.
The scenery of this incredible tour is like a live, open-air museum, as can be seen from the pictures below:
