Phuket is a beautiful place, and it is one of the most famous and popular touristic destinations in Thailand. Surrounded by the Andaman Sea, this island has a lot to offer – nature, mountains, clear turquoise water, white sand beaches, great food, and lots of other attractions. Phuket’s main economy is fishing… and tourism, and therefore if you come here during its busy (high) season there will be swarms of people everywhere – so you should consider booking your tours and accommodations in advance.
Phuket has gained a lot of attention when Hollywood knocked on its doors and shot one of its blockbusters – James Bond – The Man with the Golden Gun in Phang Nga Bay (accessible by a tour boat from Phuket). There are lots of tours in and out of Phuket and some of the most popular ones go to the nearby islands, such as the above mentioned Phang Nga Bay, Phi Phi, Similan and some other smaller ones.
I visited Phuket island during its rainy season (was not planning on it actually) and it turned out to be the best – there was a lot less tourists around, and the hotel prices were almost twice as low as they are during its high season. Though it did rain a few times while I was there, the rain actually lasted no more than an hour or two and it quickly turned into sunshine. Another great advantage to the low season was having the perfect climate temperature. Check out the photos below and let them convince you that visiting some of the coolest destinations on Earth during the low season might not be a bad idea after all.
