Since 2013 I’ve been to 37 countries across 5 continents and over 300 cities. In my everyday life I’m a double bachelor in Molecular & Cellular Biology and Pathology. Currently I’m on track to complete a third bachelors in nursing. My passions include futebol, skiing, weight training, hiking, cooking, and photography.
I was born in Connecticut in the United States. My mother emigrated from Portugal to the USA when she was fourteen years-old. My father, who was born in Portugal but grew up in Angola until the age of twenty, was forced to flee when the Angolan civil war broke out in 1975. He lived and worked in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for two years until his father became sick while in the USA, so he left Brazil to be with his father. During that time he met my mother and in 1991 I was born.
Growing up I was taken to Portugal every few summers with family for about four weeks. It was not until 2004 that I would fall head over heels in love with Portugal. My father and I toured the country that summer watching live matches from the European Cup that Portugal hosted; including the final. I had never experienced that kind of passion and national pride.
Almost every single summer thereafter I would end up traveling to Portugal alone while extending my stay to 6-8 weeks. I became closer to the family I have living there and my ability to speak improved immeasurably, so I began making more and more friends from Portugal. I came to love Portugal with all my heart and I still do.
Not until 2013 did I leave my beloved Portugal during the summer to visit a friend from Napoli, Italy that I had made while at the University of Connecticut. Gianluigi showed me a place that reminded me of my Portugal and I too began to fall in love with Italy. The following summer in 2014 I again traveled from Portugal but, with one of my best friends to visit Rome, The Vatican, Florence, Pisa, Venice, and Torino. That was the final push I had needed. I not only fell in love with Italy but I fell in love with traveling. I wanted to see more.
Shortly after returning to the USA I met a girl who shared that same passion. She was electric with energy and fearless of the world. With her I traveled through 27 countries on 4 different continents. In February of 2016 I traveled alone to Barbados, Dominica and Antigua. It was during this period Daria asked me to be part of Global Storybook and her growing team. I’m excited to share my opinions of the world and learn from others.
In the normality outside of traveling I am in pursuit of a third bachelor’s degree in nursing after having acquired bachelor’s degrees in molecular & cellular biology (2013) and pathology (2014). I’m a huge lover of futbol. I spend my time improving my fitness through various activities which I enjoy, such as weight training, rock climbing, running, and skiing. When I’m not physically active I’m reading sciencie things, cooking, working on my photography or spending time with friends and family.
I hope you will enjoy my future posts.
