Hello fellow travelers!
“Pura vida!” is the expression you most commonly hear when you travel in Costa Rica. Often used as a greeting, the “pure life” symbolizes for Costa Ricans the simplicity of the good life, together with humility, joy and well-being.
It’s the art of appreciating the simple and the natural things with happiness and optimism.
In Costa Rica there are many places that represent this concept perfectly. But there was one in particular where I really felt like screaming – and actually screamed 😄 – PURA VIDA!!! This place was Tabacon Hot Springs.
When we are stressed and tired, there is nothing better than to relax and rest in a nice hot bath. Don´t you agree? Now imagine being able to do this in nature. Surrounded by lush vegetation and beautiful waterfalls 😊
Costa Rica is home to 5 active volcanoes, so volcanic hot springs are a popular attraction there. While there are thermal pools in different parts of the country, the majority (and certainly the best known ones) are located in La Fortuna and the Arenal region because of the Arenal Volcano which is nearby.
And it is precisely here, in the middle of a forest, near the base of Arenal Volcano that you can find Tabacon Hot Springs.
There are five different springs in Tabacon. The temperatures in the springs range between 25 and 50 degrees celsius. A hot river (heated by the volcano) also flows in the two main channels throughout the area.
This river glides down the mountain, creating in some places, pools and mini-waterfalls. There is also a cold water river that runs through the property of Tabacon. This river offers cold pools that contrast well with the hot springs.
When I arrived here, I was fascinated by the beauty of the place, but then something made the experience even more magical: a heavy tropical rain started pouring down while I was bathing in one of the hot springs, closest to a waterfall.
It was surreal to be in a tropical jungle, inside hot water, with cold rain falling down and thunder rumbling over my head.
The steam that rose as a result of the cold water hitting the hot springs added even more mysticism to the scene … impossible to describe… and absolutely gorgeous!!! 😃
The thermal waters of Tabacon provide not only fun and relaxed moments but are also known for their health benefits.
They improve blood circulation and oxygenation, reduce toxins in the body, improve metabolism and the digestive system as well as stimulate, relax and improve the central nervous system.
Tabacon is also a resort that includes a spa, and a hotel with a fabulous view of the Arenal Volcano. The spa offers a variety of treatments, including full-body massages, scrubs and treatments with volcanic mud. The hotel also has a pool with a swim up bar where guests and visitors can enjoy a cold cocktail.
I hope you liked hearing about this little paradise on Earth. 😊
