9 Most Cliche Travel Quotes

Have you ever caught yourself rolling your eyes in the “NOT AGAIN” tone while looking at someone’s Instagram account that has one of THOSE quotes?  If yes – welcome to the club!  Below we compiled a list of the most cliche travel quotes that are often used by aspiring and experienced travelers alike all over their social media posts.  Say how often are they being used?  Too often.

9 most cliche travel quotes

We get it – you travel a lot, and we love following your adventures on the internet.  We love the beautiful, colorful photos that you post from your trips and the accompanying notes.  However sometimes we notice that when you really have nothing to say – you just add a famous (generic) quote, which is fine but if you really want to stand out from the crowd  – please don’t.

9. “To travel is to live”, Hans Christian Andersen.

Okay, so you travel a lot – good for you!  Just don’t tell us that it’s the only thing. Why? Because some of us can’t afford to, while others have different priorities.

8. “Take only memories, leave only footprints”, Chief Seattle.

Aha, so you travel and you care about the environment around you, and so do we!  Great.  What’s next?

7. “We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us”, Unknown.

We really don’t care why you travel, we just want to know HOW CAN YOU AFFORD to travel so much?

6. “The world is a book, and those who do not travel, read only one page”, Saint Augustine.

Okay so you traveled a bit and now you are getting all snotty about it.  We’d love to travel with you, where do we sign-up?

5. “Paris is always a good idea”, Audrey Hepburn.

Everyone who has ever read or heard this quote – uses it when they go to Paris.  E-v-e-r-y-o-n-e.  Enough said.

4. “Take the road less traveled” (or other interpretations of a poem by Robert Frost)

Usually the people who use this quote don’t fully understand it’s meaning.  You think if you step out of a bus and go take a picture in the farthest wild bush then you have the right to use this quote because… you took an original photo?  Hmm didn’t think so.

3. “I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list”, Susan Sontag.

So many destinations, so many great choices, so little time and money…  Yep, we all want to visit every country, we are just smart enough not to tell everyone around, that it’s on our agenda list.

2. “Not all those who wander are lost”, J.R.R. Tolkien

Oh. Umm. Is that why you quit your job to travel?

 1. “Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer”, Anonymous.

Seriously?!  How many self-made billionaires do you personally know that have traveled the World in order to start their business?  Quickly, let us start counting now!  How many do you have?  We have none.  There’s a reason why this quote is from an Anonymous source – the person who said it doesn’t want to be found!  Why, you ask?  You still don’t get it?  Well for one – travel only teaches us maybe 5% and the rest comes from reading about the place you’re visiting.  Two, while traveling is a nice way to learn more about the World, the only thing that can make us richer is education – whether you’re self-taught, or attending college, it’s the only thing that helps us grow, financially or spiritually – it’s your call.

  1. wow someone is obviously bitter about not being able to travel. Take a look at the things you just said. Education? yes of course education is very important, but you can’t learn everything from a book can you? Don’t lie to yourself. You need to experience things out in the real world as well. Lets not even talk about the American education nowadays. And not being able to afford? Look, I am not paid much…AT ALL. I’m still living at home finishing grad school but guess what? All that money that I see my friends spend on new iphones, and laptops every 2 yrs, and going out to eat, and buying drinks every weekend, and getting tattoos….I AM SAVING. for something else i REALLY want. I have priorities and that is to experience a new place once in a while and there is absolutely no shame in it. I give up a lot of things to be able to do this and thats ok with me. And giving up your job? not everyone gives up their job. What if you travel during your 2 week vacation? come on. And if they do give up their relentless, stressfull, unfulfilling job to do something that makes them happy? good for them. brave souls in my eyes. They’re not the ones making fun of others in a blog.
